A driveway and a basketball hoop are the only clues that a family once lived in a home on Venetian Way in Danville.
Two weeks ago a fire in the Boyle County home killed a 37-year-old mother, destroying the house and most everything in it.
This week, Libby Moore's family had planned to pick up some items that made it through the fire. But when they got to where the home used to be, there was nothing there.
Moore's son and husband planned to stop by this week to pick up a four wheeler and logging equipment buried under the debris.
"I thought things were starting to look up, I could get a little bit of money for some stuff, then it just went down the drain," said Moore's son, Andrew Stratton.
Stratton says when his dad pulled up on Tuesdaty, the property had been bulldozed and no one warned them.
"He had agreed to call before they started so we could come and get my four wheeler, the logging chains, what little was left, he agreed to it," Stratton said.
The "he" Stratton talks about is the city code enforcer.
The code enforcer told LEX18 he did call on Friday and said crews would clear the land mid to late this week. When LEX18 asked why the lot was cleared on Tuesday, the code enforcer said that was the contractor's decision and that it wasn't his responsibility to notify Moore's family. Libby Moore was renting the home.
"Really frustrating," Stratton said. "Really insulting they would just go through and take everything that was left."
Stratton says he sold that four wheeler buried under the debris. It's money he was counting on.
"It might not be a lot, but when you lose everything you have $200 means something," Stratton said.
